Although lots of young people in the western world are not religious, faith remains an important part of many people’s lives. This is because faith is often shrouded with the culture of the people who received the faith.
For example, Abrahamic religions contain a lot of customs that are indigenous to the people who received the faith originally. Similarly, Sikhism offers Southern Asians an indigenous faith in one God.
Over the years, many people that embraced Christianity have embedded it in their culture. These include the Roman Catholics, The Anglicans, The Evangelicals, etc. However, since President Trump became the poster child for the Evangelicals, members of minority groups within the church have lost faith and become disillusioned. Some have started exploring African religions in search of identity.
While Jimmy’s experience is pure fiction, the narrative of The Chiodu Files offers people of Southern Nigerian ancestry some cultural identity and an opportunity to explore Olodumare or Chukwu as the monotheist God, that they already believe in.
It draws on the Omoluwabi philosophy and Ezigbo Mmadu concept that are indigenous to the Yoruba and Igbo tribes of southern Nigeria respectively.
